Public Speaking

Dan Bauer has been speaking at USA Hockey Coaching Clinics for over ten years. His presentation on the "Role of the Coach" has become a staple of clinics across the state of Wisconsin. His passion for the game of hockey and the role coaches have in developing character is clearly evident in each of his appearances. Bauer has also taken his enthusiasm for small games on the road to these annual clinics. Whatever the subject, Coach Bauer's presentations will be entertaining, informative and often controversial.

In addition to Coach Bauer's work for USA Hockey he has also spoken to youth organizations and coaches on a variety of topics. Whether you are interested in a speech to a large group or a small group, Coach Bauer is available. Unlike many high priced speakers, Coach Bauer, like his Hockey by Bauer programs, is very easy on the checkbook. Contact him directly if you are interested in one of his presentations.

Samples from Presentations

"Sports do not build character. You will not magically absorb character by being involved in a sport. Coaches build character and the decisions they make day after day determine whether or not that will happen."

"The leaders on your team should be the hardest working players. That, I believe is the number one characteristic. They should be role models on and off the field/ice/court. Good leaders are dependable, fair and unselfish. Leading is getting out in front and showing the rest of the team the way things should be done. Leadership is not pushing people from behind; it is leading at the front of the pack."

"At the youth level the mistake of pushing complicated systems instead of simple concepts on kids is often made. The average youth player does not have the overall understanding of the game to comprehend most system play. Countless diagrams, X's & O's outlining every conceivable situation need to be replaced with straightforward concepts like win the race, puck support and get the puck to the net. These are ideas that youth players can grasp and habits that when established allow them at a later age to execute any system available. A player who understands how to create and execute a 2 on1 can run any powerplay imaginable."

"In a society that almost refuses to allow kids to fail, learning how to compete is an important & essential experience. In athletics it has many names, heart, drive, desire, the will to win, but whatever you call it, athletics is one of the few places where it is still taught."
